Portrait of Yuyang Yao

Yuyang Yao

I am an MPhil student in Linguistics, Philology and Phonetics at the University of Oxford.

My research lies at the intersection of cognitive science of language, computational modelling, and artificial intelligence.

I study how linguistic knowledge is learned, represented, and processed in humans and artificial systems, and how it manifests in behaviour.

About me

Before coming to Oxford, I studied German at Beijing Foreign Studies University. At the time, my interests were mainly in phonetics and phonology. In 2023, I had the opportunity to spend a year at the University of Göttingen as an exchange student. There, I took courses in phonology, syntax and Mediävistik. Towards the end of that academic year, I also attended the 9th Naxos Summer School on Diachronic Linguistics.
